MMDVM :: Open Source - Multi-Mode Digital Voice Modem.
The "HAT" is an add on (Hardware Attached on Top).

See the board designed by Mathis DB9MAT, which is a board that brings together the UHF module, the STM32F103 CPU, and which is plugged directly onto the smallest Raspberry Pi, the Pi Zero W.

This is called the MMDVM HS HAT (Hardware Attached on Top).

This project provides a Raspberry Pi Hat for the MMDVM_HS Hotspot. It was designed for the Raspberry Pi Zero, but should work on any other Pi with the Hat interface.

This is a communication device used in HAM radio that enables supports for the following standards DMR, P-25, D-Star and System Fusion

I felt so stupid because I did not understand the differences, configurations and setup,  so because I was an early adopter to this product I could not find a lot available to read.
